Legendary choreographer and one of the greater influencers of contemporary dance history Merce Cunningham was born on April 16th 1919.

During his long career he choreographed more than 200 pieces and more than 800 site-specific ‘events’. He continued creating and leading his dance company until his death, at the age of 90. His work with his life partner musician John Cage, changed the way we perceive dance in relation to music.

His innovative ideas changed the landscape of modern dance and keep influencing dancers, teachers and choreographers until our times. We love this quote of Cunningham where he describes dance as nothing but that single fleeting moment when you feel alive!
