Moving Athens –an alternative portrait of a city in crisis

Moving Cities is a series of short films, created by director Jevan Chowdhury, who aims to present cities through the movement of their inhabitants. The project begun in January 2014 and so far has travelled to six cities: London, Paris, Jerevan, Brussels , Prague and recently Athens.

Moving Athens was presented a few days ago through the Moving Cities website. In the film, 60 dancers of various ages and dance styles are scattered throughout Athens in streets, squats, yards and rooftops. Through dance and improvisation they ‘narrate’ their own story of a city in constant transition.

Moving Athens takes on the poetic black-and-white imagery of the previous films, to depict and alternative portrait of Athens at a crucial moment of its long history.
